Uruguayan defender Alan Saldivia faces a pivotal moment in his career at Colo Colo. Following a poor season for the club that impacted many players, the 23-year-old has shared mutual disappointment with the institution. Saldivia requested to leave in this transfer window, and Blanco y Negro president Aníbal Mosa confirmed they will assess his position.
"We have to review something with our center-back Alan Saldivia. We will surely have a conversation with him; the coach has to talk to him, to see if he will stay at the club, if he will focus on the club, if his head will be in the club. It will be a decision," Mosa stated recently.
This resolution affects Colo Colo's transfer strategy. The executive added: "Once we decide that, if Alan Saldivia stays, we would go for a left-footed center-back. If the player leaves, we would go for a left-footed center-back and a right-footed one".
Interest in Saldivia is longstanding. For a couple of seasons, he has been linked to a move abroad. In 2024, Orlando City of the MLS offered $350,000 for a loan with purchase option, but Colo Colo, valuing his pass at over $3 million, turned it down as it did not include a percentage sale.
Now, Vasco da Gama, Rio de Janeiro's second-most popular club, has ramped up its pursuit. The Brazilian side sent scouts mid-year and plans a formal offer next week: a one-year loan with purchase option. This bid appears feasible for the whites, who aim to settle Saldivia's status quickly, as he is one of their players on the market.
The Brasileirão, South America's most competitive and lucrative league, offers an appealing step for the Uruguayan, who has been persistently tracked from Brazilian football.
