Australian rider Andrew Hoy is competing at the Luhmühlen Horse Trials CCI4*-S with his horse Vassily De Lassos in pursuit of selection for the World Championships.
Hoy, an eight-time Olympian, finished the dressage phase on a score of 32.7. This placed the pair 16th ahead of the cross-country phase.
The 17-year-old Vassily De Lassos is a double Tokyo medallist. Hoy told Horse & Hound he was “really happy” with the test after a decade of training together.
Hoy confirmed discussions with Australian team management about selection for the World Championships in Aachen. This would mark their fourth championships together if he is chosen.
Cross-country action at Luhmühlen was scheduled to begin on 20 June. Hoy noted that time would be a significant challenge on the course designed by Mike Etherington-Smith.
