Appo to launch african training platform by year-end

The African Petroleum Producers’ Organisation will launch a continent-wide training platform by the end of the year. Egypt has proposed hosting a ministerial session next June to advance energy cooperation across Africa.

The announcement came during talks in Cairo between Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi and APPO Secretary-General Farid Ghazali. Ghazali stated that the training platform would be rolled out within the continent by the end of the current year.

Egypt proposed holding an APPO ministerial meeting on the sidelines of the African Union’s mid-year coordination summit in New Alamein next June. The session would focus on energy priorities, development projects and greater African integration in the sector.

The two officials also reviewed progress on launching the African Energy Bank, a key APPO initiative to finance oil and gas projects. Badawi stressed the need for joint efforts to address funding gaps for infrastructure while noting Egypt’s specialised companies such as Enppi, Petrojet and the Egyptian Drilling Company.
