Army and police recover skeletal remains of five in Lanao del Sur

Authorities recovered the skeletal remains of five people in Maguing town, Lanao del Sur, after soldiers began digging near an army base on May 11.

Police and military units found the remains about 1.2 kilometers from the headquarters of the Army’s 55th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Dilimbayan. The discovery took place at around 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 11, though details were released only on Friday, May 15.

A preliminary report from Scene of the Crime Operatives suggested the remains had been buried around 2022. Intelligence indicated the victims were allegedly executed by a man known as Commander Lomala, who is now deceased.

No matches were found with local missing persons records. With no claimants coming forward, the remains were buried in a public cemetery in Amai Manabilang town.
