Arsenal have completed the signing of goalkeeper Illan Meslier from Leeds United on a free transfer. The 26-year-old Frenchman will serve as backup to David Raya.
Arsenal announced the move on July 9 as their first signing of the summer transfer window. Meslier spent seven years at Leeds, where he made 215 appearances across all competitions before losing his starting role last season.
Meslier told the Arsenal website he was extremely happy to join the club. “It’s a great day for me because I have just joined the champions,” he said. “For me, Arsenal is the biggest club in England.”
He added that he cannot wait to show his love for the badge and win trophies with the team. The signing comes after Meslier became a free agent following the expiration of his contract at Elland Road.
