Audi team principal Mattia Binotto has set a goal for the German manufacturer to compete for the Formula 1 world championship by 2030.
Audi entered Formula 1 in 2026 by taking over Sauber's grid spot. Nine races into the season, the team sits ninth in the standings with six points scored by driver Gabriel Bortoleto.
Binotto told Motorsport that the target stretches beyond the initial years. "Our target is 2030: we want to build a team capable of competing for the world championship," he said.
The team views 2026 and 2027 as construction years. A first major milestone is expected in 2028. Around 1,400 staff work on the chassis and power unit behind the scenes, with just over 100 on the track.
The power unit requires upgrades after trailing the Red Bull Ford benchmark by more than 4 percent on internal combustion engine output. The chassis has shown strength, matching Mercedes and frontrunners in corners according to driver feedback.
