Barack Obama shares 2026 summer playlist honoring Glen Hansard

Barack Obama released his annual summer playlist on social media Thursday, opening with a track by Glen Hansard following the musician's death earlier in the week.

Obama wrote that the list features songs he and Michelle Obama have been listening to this summer. It begins with Hansard’s “Song of Good Hope” from the 2012 album Rhythm and Repose.

The former president noted Hansard’s passing on Wednesday at age 56 in a motorcycle accident and expressed condolences to his family.

The playlist mixes new and classic tracks across genres. Selections include The Strokes’ “Going Shopping,” Noah Kahan’s “Doors,” Coldplay’s “Charlie Brown,” and songs by The Beatles, David Bowie, Vince Staples, and others.

Contemporary cuts sit alongside older favorites such as Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues” and Neil Young’s “Heart of Gold.”
