Prior to his injuries, Gostisbehere recorded seven points in four games, tying Cale Makar for the NHL lead among defensemen.
The return comes amid challenges on the blue line, as Charles Alexis Legault sustained a hand injury in Sunday's game in Toronto after falling on a skate blade. The Hurricanes announced he will be out for three to four months following surgery.
Frederik Andersen is slated to start in goal, marking his 18th career matchup against Washington. He secured a win in his previous outing against Minnesota, making 21 saves.
