Chief Justice of Nigeria Kudirat Kekere-Ekun stated that judicial reforms require lawyers' backing. She spoke during a meeting with the outgoing Nigerian Bar Association leadership in Abuja on July 12, 2026.
The Chief Justice emphasized the shared duty of the legal profession and judiciary in advancing justice and the rule of law. She thanked the NBA, led by Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, for its support of the new Nigerian Case Management System at the Supreme Court.
NBA President Osigwe pledged continued collaboration on the system and the Supreme Court Practice Directions 2026. He raised concerns over some provisions and asked for user manuals and training materials to help lawyers adapt.
Chief Registrar Kabir Akanbi confirmed that manuals are ready and invited the NBA to nominate representatives for the rollout. He said the electronic filing platform includes safeguards for litigants and practitioners.
