Colapinto qualifies 15th for Las Vegas Formula 1 Grand Prix

Argentine driver Franco Colapinto advanced to Q2 in the Las Vegas Grand Prix qualifying but failed to reach Q3, starting 15th in Sunday's race. Lando Norris claimed pole position in a tight battle with Max Verstappen. The session was complicated by rain on the track.

The qualifying session for the Las Vegas Formula 1 Grand Prix, held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, faced challenges from torrential rain that made the track nearly impossible to handle. Franco Colapinto, driving for Alpine, finished 11th in Q1 with a time of 1m57s323, advancing to the second segment alongside teammate Pierre Gasly, who ended 10th overall.

In Q2, Colapinto could not improve enough and finished 15th, eliminated along with Oliver Bearman (Haas), Esteban Ocon (Haas), Lance Stroll (Aston Martin), and Nico Hulkenberg (Sauber). Those out in Q1 included Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari), Yuki Tsunoda (Red Bull), Gabriel Bortoleto (Sauber), Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes), and Alexander Albon (Williams), who crashed and damaged his suspension.

Lando Norris (McLaren) secured pole position, followed by Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and Carlos Sainz (Williams), forming the Q3 podium. George Russell (Mercedes) led Q1 and Q2 but finished fourth. Formula 1's official account praised Colapinto for a Q2 maneuver: "Franco Colapinto keeps his Alpine out of the barriers with a mega save," referring to a corner where he had crashed the previous year.

In the preceding FP3, Colapinto finished 16th, having briefly reached sixth with soft tires. Gasly expressed optimism about Alpine's performance after practice sessions. The main race will run on Sunday, November 23, at 1:00 AM Argentina time, broadcast on Disney+ Premium and Fox Sports.
