Converse Japan unveils 50th anniversary Pro Leather collaborations

Converse Japan is marking the 50th anniversary of the Pro Leather with two vintage-inspired releases in the TimeLine series. The collaborations feature designs directed by Japanese vintage collectors Katsufumi Tokunaga of SOMA and Takaya Yamada of MAGFORLIA. Both models will launch on March 21 through Converse Japan.

The Converse Pro Leather J VTG OX serves as the canvas for this anniversary project, drawing on the brand's 1976 heritage. Produced in Japan with premium materials, the shoes blend retro aesthetics and modern updates. Katsufumi Tokunaga's version adopts a black and gray palette, incorporating textured pebbled leather and suede panels for a nostalgic feel.

Takaya Yamada's design, meanwhile, features a bold purple and gold colorway inspired by his personal footwear archive. Each model includes "Directed by" text with the creator's name stamped on the inner waist. Enhancing comfort, the shoes incorporate OrthoLite insoles within their upgraded internal structure.

Priced at ¥33,000 JPY (approximately $210 USD), the releases come with an exclusive TimeLine tag, model-specific spare shoelaces, and packaging that replicates the original 1976 carton. The SKU remains to be confirmed. This collection highlights Converse's commitment to archival storytelling through expert collaborations.
