Disney+ has given a series order to a live-action adaptation of the horror comic Afterlife With Archie. The show is scheduled to premiere around Halloween 2027 with an all-new cast.
The series will depict the town of Riverdale as an apocalyptic, zombie-overrun nightmare. A supernatural spell from a teen witch backfires, unleashing the possessed dead, and Archie and his friends must fight to survive while testing their friendships and loyalties.
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who served as showrunner of Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, will executive produce alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, Jon Goldwater, and Jimmy Gibbons.
Aguirre-Sacasa called the project a full-circle moment, saying it was the comic that started it all before Riverdale or Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Disney Kids & Family president Ayo Davis said fans will fall hard for this new version of the gang.
Casting has not been announced, and the series will feature new actors in the teenage roles rather than returning performers from prior Riverdale or Sabrina adaptations.
