The German Weather Service (DWD) presented its preliminary summary of autumn 2025 on Friday. Although there was heat, snow, and ice, the weather was overall unremarkable. «It looks like a completely average autumn», said DWD spokesperson Andreas Walter.
From early September to late November, average temperatures were above those of the reference years. This is a normal development that occurs regularly. September was 1.2 degrees warmer than the 1961-1990 reference period. Just before the autumn start on September 22, maximum temperatures rose above 30 degrees, then it became noticeably cooler.
October turned out cloudy and wet, with regionally varying precipitation. «October 2025 was not very golden», the DWD summarized. In November, temperatures were divided: initially above average warm, then cooler and finally wintry. Snow brought sledding and skiing joy in some areas, while black ice led to serious road accidents.
Overall, the autumn was wetter and less sunny than in comparison years but remained within the normal range. The DWD compares current data with long-term values to assess climate change.
