Estación Central municipality inaugurated the country's first municipal dog grooming salon this weekend. The service provides washing and cutting at reduced prices and offers free care to rescued dogs.
Mayor Felipe Muñoz said the measure is part of an animalist agenda promoted since the start of his administration. The municipality already has a municipal veterinary clinic, an Animal Protection Office, an Animal Rescue Mobile Unit and a responsible pet ownership ordinance.
The service operates Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 14:00 with prior reservation at Las Catalpas Poniente 198. Prices are close to 50 percent of market value and are calculated according to the animal's weight.
Priority is given to older adults, people with disabilities, neurodivergent people and caregivers. Rescued dogs receive free care to improve their condition and increase their chances of adoption.
Muñoz clarified that current regulations only allow service to Estación Central residents who prove residency with the Registro Social de Hogares or the Soy Centralin@ card.
