A 47-year-old man in North Carolina died after trying to stop his daughter's boyfriend from attacking her during a late-night argument. The 17-year-old suspect also wounded the girl before fleeing the scene.
Lester Jones was killed early Monday when he intervened in a physical fight between his 16-year-old daughter and her boyfriend, Keshaun Tirrell Degraffenreid. The incident occurred shortly after midnight at a home on Bedlington Drive Northwest in Concord, about 25 miles northeast of Charlotte. Degraffenreid, who is being charged as an adult, allegedly punched the girl in the face during their argument. When Jones stepped in to protect her, the teen fired multiple rounds, killing Jones at the scene and seriously injuring his daughter, police said. Officers arrested Degraffenreid after a brief foot chase nearby. He faces charges including first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, misdemeanor domestic violence, and resisting officers. His next court date is scheduled for June 18. A neighbor described the event as a father making the ultimate sacrifice for his daughter.
