Justin Kirkland followed with his first goal of the season at 9:50, roofing a shot on a 2-on-1 break assisted by Ryan Lomberg. Yan Kuznetsov pushed the lead to 4-0 at 11:49 with a wrist shot from the left point, earning a secondary assist for Connor Zary and extending Zary's career-high five-game point streak to two goals and four assists.
The Islanders responded quickly, with Pageau scoring 32 seconds later at 12:21 from the left circle to cut the deficit to 4-1. New York coach Patrick Roy pulled Rittich for an extra attacker with 8:04 left in the third period. Anders Lee then notched his 300th NHL goal—and first in 10 games—at 17:04, squeezing a shot through Wolf's pads from below the left circle. Lee joined Mike Bossy, Bryan Trottier, Denis Potvin, and Clark Gillies as the fifth Islanders player to reach 300 goals.
Matthew Schaefer had two assists for New York, who sit at 26-17-5. Rittich made 15 saves before being replaced by Ilya Sorokin, though the latter did not face a shot in the brief time.
