A forest fire declared Thursday in Tamarite de Litera, Huesca, has burned more than 1,000 hectares and prompted the preventive evacuation of three localities.
The fire started at 11:30 on Thursday from a spark released by an agricultural vehicle. It has forced the closure of the A-2216 road between Peralta de la Sal and San Esteban de Litera.
The Government of Aragon has activated the Procinfo plan at level 2 and deployed five helicopters, four ground brigades, four fire trucks and two advanced command posts. The Ministry for Ecological Transition has sent three amphibious planes, one FOCA plane and four helicopters. The Military Emergency Unit has also joined the operation.
The 240 residents of Alins, Azanuy and Calasanz have been relocated to Peralta de la Sal and Monzón. A preventive confinement has been decreed in Fonz due to smoke. President Jorge Azcón noted that weather conditions greatly complicate extinction efforts and expressed hope that nightfall will help.
Government delegate Fernando Beltrán and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez have expressed concern over the fire's evolution, which is the worst in Aragon since 2022.
