Former Penn State coach lauds Steelers rookie Drew Allar

Bob Palko, a former Penn State staffer, has praised the character of Pittsburgh Steelers rookie quarterback Drew Allar. Palko described Allar as an outstanding individual who remained committed to his team despite setbacks.

Palko, who served as Penn State’s high school relations director until recently, spoke to Steelers Depot on Monday. He highlighted Allar’s response to a serious ankle injury during a loss to Northwestern that contributed to coach James Franklin’s firing.

“Allar attended practices and meetings after surgery, helping teammates however he could,” Palko said. “He didn’t miss anything. He’s almost too good to be true.”

Palko also noted Allar’s physical skills, saying the quarterback possesses a strong arm suited for the NFL. “He’s got a hose. There’s not a throw he can’t make,” he added, while cautioning that success will depend on adapting to new coaching under Mike McCarthy.

Allar’s father recently contacted Palko to wish him well ahead of his return to high school coaching at West Allegheny.
