Genesis Owusu announces third album 'Redstar Wu & The Worldwide Scourge'

Australian musician Genesis Owusu has revealed his third album, 'Redstar Wu & The Worldwide Scourge', set for release on May 15 via OURNESS. The project follows his 2023 LP 'STRUGGLER' and includes recent singles 'Pirate Radio', 'Death Cult Zombie' and 'Stampede'. Owusu described writing it out of necessity to address current events.

Genesis Owusu, the Ghanaian-born, Canberra-based artist, announced his third album, 'Redstar Wu & The Worldwide Scourge', on March 18, 2026. It arrives May 15 via OURNESS and can be pre-ordered or pre-saved now. The album builds on singles released in recent months: 'Pirate Radio', 'Death Cult Zombie' and 'Stampede' all feature on the record. A press release states it provides commentary on the modern, 'unsettled' world, exploring genres such as neo-soul, alt pop, synth punk and funk. Owusu explained his motivation: “I started writing this album because I was seeing so much of the world and watching what was happening. I felt like I had something important to say. I was writing this almost for necessity because there were so many people not saying what needed to be said. I feel like I’m a student of Nina Simone, and she said, ‘the purpose of an artist is to reflect the times they live in’.” To mark the release, Owusu schedules an Australian tour under the banner 'Red Star Wu’s Pirate Radio' 2026. Dates include: May 14 at Bar On The Hill, Newcastle; May 15 at UC Refectory, Canberra; May 17 at Fortitude Music Hall, Brisbane; May 18 at Enmore Theatre, Sydney; May 21 at Forum, Melbourne; May 23 at Thebarton Theatre, Adelaide; and May 26 at Ice Cream Factory, Perth. Presale tickets start at 12pm local time on March 20, with general sale on March 23 at 12pm. His prior album 'STRUGGLER' earned four stars from NME and ranked 18th on their Best Albums of 2023 list, praised for its radical sonic ideas and vibrant patchwork.
