Google announces Wear OS 7 at I/O 2026

Google has unveiled Wear OS 7, the newest version of its wearable operating system. The update brings Gemini Intelligence integration and a refreshed widget system. It was announced alongside other AI features at the I/O 2026 event.

The software carries design elements from Android 17 and introduces Wear Widgets, which offer more dynamic and customizable options than previous tiles. Developers can create widgets using the AI-powered Create My Widget tool and transfer them to smartwatches. Live Updates for real-time information and a default workout tracker with media controls are also included.

Apple's upcoming WatchOS 27 will introduce a simplified version of the Modular Ultra watch face designed for standard Apple Watches, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman. The new face removes central and bezel complications for a cleaner look. This comes ahead of WWDC 2026, with WatchOS 26.5 adding a Pride Luminance face in June.

Google announced that its upcoming Android XR intelligent eyewear will work with iOS devices as well as Android phones. The glasses are scheduled to launch this fall following a reveal at the company's developer conference.
