Education Minister Abdul Mu'ti announced the 2026 target during a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday. The goal forms part of President Prabowo's accelerated education reform, which aims to renovate 300,000 schools over five years, with prior yearly targets of 17,000 (last year) and 70,000 (this year). Mu'ti said the expanded scope follows direct instructions from President Prabowo to accelerate education quality equalization nationwide.
The government has so far completed cooperation agreements with 4,838 educational units and disbursed assistance to 3,408 schools. Rp2.6 trillion in funds has been realized to support infrastructure improvements.
Revitalization prioritizes schools damaged by natural disasters in Sumatra and other regions, as well as those in 3T areas and those with severe damage. Mu'ti stressed the measures aim to improve education quality in remote locations.
