Finance Minister Jorge Quiroz announced on Friday the withdrawal of indications reducing the corporate tax from 23% to 22%. The step aims to honor a deal reached with PPD senators, though the party declares the agreement fallen.

On Friday in the Senate Finance Commission, Quiroz announced the decision following a request from Interior Minister Claudio Alvarado. The indications had been presented Thursday night and complicated the understanding reached Wednesday with senators Pedro Araya, Loreto Carvajal and Ricardo Celis.

“We will keep the corporate rate down to 23%, and consequently, privileging and honoring the agreement we closed with the senators... I come to withdraw indications 61, 63, 65 and the seventh transitory”, Quiroz stated.

From the PPD, Senator Pedro Araya said the pact “fell due to the exclusive fault of the Government” and that trust had been broken. “If the Government wants one to vote in favor, that is reason for a new conversation”, he added.

The megareform vote in the Senate chamber is scheduled for Wednesday, July 15.
