The novel, published in 2018—the same year as Harry and Meghan's wedding—centers on Alexa Monroe, a ambitious professional who gets trapped in an elevator with the charismatic Drew Nichols. Their chance meeting evolves into a pact to attend a wedding as dates, igniting a budding romance. Guillory has characterized the story as "fun and flirty," suggesting the movie will emphasize lighthearted chemistry.
Tracy Oliver, tasked with the screenplay, brings a proven track record to the production. She broke barriers as the first Black woman to pen a film grossing over $100 million worldwide with Girls Trip.
