Kaitlin Olson revealed that fan enthusiasm for a Morgan-Karadec romance directly influenced the separate romantic storylines in High Potential's second season. The show's writers opted to keep the pair apart by introducing new love interests for each. Olson shared these insights in an interview with Variety.
Kaitlin Olson, who stars as Morgan and serves as an executive producer on High Potential, explained that the decision to develop individual romantic arcs for her character and Karadec stemmed from fans' strong support for their pairing. 'It was inspired by everyone really jumping on this Morgan-Karadec bandwagon and being like, 'Will they or won't they?'' Olson told Variety. She added, 'I just thought that was so funny. We talked about it, and I was like, 'You can't just jump right into that, because where do you go from there? Who knows what's going to happen in the future?'' The team settled on giving them separate interests to prolong the tension. This led to Morgan's relationship with Wagner, played by Steve Howey, and Karadec's with Lucia, played by Susan Kelechi Watson. Wagner, the new captain with a shady past and a mustache, ended the season finale bleeding from a stab wound in a park. Deadline reports Howey will not return as a series regular for season 3, though he may guest-star to resolve the storyline. Lucia, Karadec's ex-fiancée with whom he bought a house, was revealed to have aided an ex-boyfriend in scamming and killing a high-profile guest, landing her in prison. Both relationships appear unlikely to continue when High Potential returns to ABC this fall.
