A Hong Kong school principal is facing online criticism after a video showed him arguing with two South Asian security guards in Singapore. Viewers are divided on whether the behaviour was rude or racially motivated.
Lee Cheuk-hing, principal of San Wui Commercial Society Secondary School in Tuen Mun, was filmed during a school trip last Friday. The video captured him shouting at two female guards over a parking issue involving the group's bus. He used phrases such as “impolite”, “shut up” and “go away”, along with swearing in Cantonese.
The guards appeared upset and pointed fingers at Lee during the exchange. Observers noted he behaved differently toward a passer-by who seemed ethnically Chinese.
Dr John Tse Wing-ling, executive director of Hong Kong Initiative for Diversity, said it is difficult to determine if the actions were racially motivated. Most online comments focused on the principal’s lack of courtesy.
