Following the attack at the Berlin Christopher Street Day, hundreds of people in Saarbrücken have shown solidarity with the victims.
Organizers from the Saarland state association Queere Vielfalt (LSVD+ Saar) counted more than 500 participants at Tbilisser Platz in front of the Saarland State Theater. The square was illuminated in colors as a sign of solidarity.
«We had not expected more than 500 people», said board member Sebastian Thul. «We mourn today. But we will not change our way of life.»
Education and Culture Minister Christine Streichert-Clivot (SPD) spoke of a clear sign against hate and for the protection of queer people. Police confirmed the participant number and a peaceful course.
The LSVD+ condemned the queerphobic and Islamist attack. Board member Julia Zimmermann emphasized that they condemn Islamist terror but do not put all Muslims under general suspicion.
