India face England in first T20I amid selection talks

India and England begin their five-match T20I series on Wednesday with attention on 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's possible debut. The visitors seek to recover from a 0-2 loss to Ireland last week.

India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate stated that Sooryavanshi must go through the process and bide his time to earn a place in the eleven. He added that the youngster appears ready for the challenge.

The series opener takes place at the Riverside Ground where past matches show an average score of 138. England include bowlers such as Jofra Archer and Adil Rashid while India list Shreyas Iyer as captain.

Ten Doeschate noted disbelief in the camp after the Ireland defeats. Possible changes include resting Sanju Samson or Ishan Kishan to accommodate Sooryavanshi alongside Abhishek Sharma.

India's squad also features Tilak Varma, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar. England name Harry Brook as captain with Jos Buttler in the lineup. The match starts at 10 p.m. IST.
