Timnas Indonesia will start its Piala AFF 2026 campaign against Cambodia at Stadion Pakansari in Bogor on Monday night at 20.30 WIB.
Coach John Herdman stressed the importance of tactical identity and team cohesion against Cambodia which has already played one match against Singapore. He said the main focus is not on the opponent but on how the squad displays the game built so far.
Absent captain Jay Idzes sent a message of support from Italy due to Sassuolo pre-season commitments. He stated his heart and support are always with the team and called for unity with the slogan "Kita Garuda".
BTN chairman Sumardji revealed the team brought 26 players as a precaution although regulations allow only 23. He noted Marselino Ferdinan suffered an injury with his playing chance still at 50-50 while Justin Hubner awaits club permission.
Nadeo Argawinata stated the squad aims to end a 30-year title drought. Bambang Pamungkas and Cristian Gonzales also expressed optimism that the John Herdman era could be a turning point for Timnas Indonesia.
