Jeunes Horizons unveil proposals for 2027 presidential race

The youth wing of the Horizons party, founded by Edouard Philippe, released over 40 proposals on February 25 for the 2027 presidential election. The ideas focus on ecology, employment, and secularism, while advocating administrative simplification and business support. They aim to reaffirm state authority, as stated by the young activists.

While awaiting the full program promised by Edouard Philippe for the presidential election, Jeunes Horizons, the youth branch of the party he founded in 2021, unveiled its own ideas. Made up of 6,500 members aged 16 to 35 out of Horizons' total 40,000 adherents, the group has been active since spring 2022, involving nearly 600 young people in developing these proposals.

Led by president Marine Cazard, general secretary Camille Renard, and Coline Seralta, head of the contributions unit, this document of over 40 measures emphasizes a liberal, ecological, and feminist approach, while claiming sovereignist credentials. “A way to prevent nationalists from monopolizing the notion of sovereignty, argues Marine Cazard. One can be liberal, committed to Europe, and defend France's strategic interests and assets in technology and industry…”

The proposals advocate for greater administrative simplification, a business-friendly environment, and a reaffirmation of state authority. They address topics such as ecology, employment, and secularism, reflecting the perspective of a moderate right-wing youth seeking to amplify its influence within the party. Edouard Philippe, former Prime Minister from 2017 to 2020, is currently focused on his municipal campaign in Le Havre, Seine-Maritime.

Euro MP Chloé Ridel, 34, coordinated the 150-page Socialist Party program presented on Wednesday. Tasked by Olivier Faure a year ago, this ideological base aims for a «new socialism for the 21st century». The document, with over 600 measures, includes proposals like a tax on large inheritances and raising the minimum wage to 1600 euros.

One year before the 2027 presidential election, Horizons' youth wing launches a communication drive at the end of April to woo 18-24 year olds, where their candidate Édouard Philippe polls at just 7-13%. They urge Philippe to invest in TikTok and claim 6500 members across 75 universities. President Marine Cazard aims to be present in campuses, bars, beaches, and festivals.

Horizons and Renaissance parties, led by Édouard Philippe and Gabriel Attal, are organizing a first strategic meeting on April 15 with MoDem and UDI centrists. The move comes amid renewed talks of a single candidate from the right and center one year before the 2027 presidential election. Representatives from the parties will gather for lunch.

Doubting the candidacies of Édouard Philippe and Gabriel Attal, allies of Emmanuel Macron are considering Jean Castex and Sébastien Lecornu as fallback options for the 2027 presidential election to preserve the president's legacy.
