The 31-year-old, who played for the Storks from 2018 to 2021 and became a key player and fan favorite, signed a new contract on Saturday. Neither the duration nor the fee was officially confirmed, but according to Kieler Nachrichten, it runs until summer 2028 with a transfer fee of about 200,000 euros. In 2021, Holstein Kiel had received around 500,000 euros from HSV for Meffert.
Meffert expressed joy at the return: "Holstein Kiel remains a special club for me, where I experienced many beautiful and emotional moments. I had an important chapter of my career here and am very much looking forward to returning and being part of this environment again." Sports director Olaf Rebbe emphasized: "Jonas will help shape our largely newly assembled young team this summer on the pitch and in the locker room with his calm demeanor and straightforward approach."
Meffert is the second signing in the winter transfer window after Umut Tohumcu from Hoffenheim. He had limited playing time at HSV recently. The team prepares from Sunday in a training camp in Algorfa, Spain, for the second half, lasting until January 11. Test matches are scheduled against Servette Geneva and Ferencvaros Budapest. At the camp's start, two pros were absent due to flu-like infections, and Rebbe was not yet on site; the flight was delayed.
