Judge orders provisional prison for alleged killer of Kimberli D.G. in Figueres

A Figueres judge has ordered provisional prison without bail for Andrés R.C., 48, over the homicide of his ex-partner Kimberli D.G., a 32-year-old trans Honduran woman, which occurred on May 19 in a town square in the Girona province.

Mossos d’Esquadra officers detained the man on May 17 for gender-based violence after an assault that left the victim with bruises and wounds. In the risk assessment questionnaire, the agents recorded that they did not see a “risk of suffering a serious physical aggression”.

On Monday the 18th a fast-track trial was held in which Andrés R.C. accepted a six-month suspended prison sentence, a 250-metre restraining order and a weapons ban. That same afternoon he was detained again for breaching the order but was released the following day.

On Tuesday the 19th, after his release, the man killed Kimberli D.G. with knife wounds in Josep Tarradellas square in front of witnesses. The judge of court 5 has charged him with intentional homicide and breach of sentence, ordering his provisional communicated prison without bail.

Equality and Feminisms minister Eva Menor has acknowledged that “something has failed” and announced a review group on feminicides. Figueres City Council will join the case as a popular prosecution.
