The Kenya Airports Authority board has appointed Moses Wekesa as its new Managing Director and CEO after a rigorous selection process. He will lead KAA's transformation agenda, including the modernisation of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Wekesa brings extensive experience in high-impact projects across multiple continents.
The Kenya Airports Authority Board of Directors announced the appointment of Moses Wekesa as Managing Director and CEO on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
"The KAA Board has appointed Moses Wekesa as Managing Director/CEO following a competitive process," the board stated.
Wekesa will oversee Kenya's airports and airstrips, including the main hub Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. His appointment comes as KAA prepares to modernise JKIA starting in June, aiming to position it among Africa's top modern airports.
"He will lead KAA’s transformation agenda, including the modernization and expansion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport," KAA added.
Previously, Wekesa served as Business Development Director at KenGen, with experience managing projects in Europe, Asia, the Pacific, and Africa. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nairobi, and postgraduate qualifications in Finance, Appraisal, and Project Planning from the University of Bradford in the UK.
Prior leadership included Alex Gitari as permanent MD from July 2021 until his termination in August 2023 amid JKIA power outages. Henry Ogoye became Acting MD in August 2023, Nicholas Bodo Acting Director General in December 2024, and Mohamud Gedi served most recently as Acting MD.
