Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata joined the Linda Mwananchi group during a meeting held in Kivulini, Thika, on June 14, 2026.
Mr Kang’ata said he was impressed by the vision of Linda Mwananchi, noting that the movement represented a new face of Kenya led by young leaders not driven by tribalism.
He criticised President Ruto’s government, saying its policies had hurt businesses and industries. He also faulted the housing levy and the SHA medical insurance policy.
He urged Linda Mwananchi leaders to reach out to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to build a strong opposition. Mr Sifuna told supporters that the group was preparing for major political change in 2027.
The meeting was preceded by a brief standoff at AIPCA church in Thika where Senator Edwin Sifuna and MP Babu Owino were initially denied entry.
