KRA gives 30-day notice for uncollected goods in warehouses

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has issued a 30-day ultimatum to importers whose goods remain uncollected at the Inland Container Depot and bonded facilities in Nairobi. If the items are not cleared within this period, they will be declared abandoned and sold at public auction from January 5 to 9, 2026. The notice was published in a gazette dated November 7.

In a gazette notice dated November 7, 2025, the Chief Manager of the Depot, George Aduwi, and the Chief Manager of the Nairobi Customs Station, Michael Watii, warned that uncollected goods will be declared abandoned if not cleared within 30 days. This follows the provisions of section 42 of the East African Community Customs Management Act, 2004 as amended (EACCMA, 2004).

"Pursuant to the provisions of section 42 of the East African Community Customs Management Act, 2004 as amended (EACCMA, 2004), notice is given that unless the under-mentioned goods are entered and removed from their respective Customs Bonded Facilities within thirty (30) days of this notice," the notice stated.

"The goods will be treated as abandoned and will be disposed of in accordance with the provisions of EACCMA, 2004, including being sold by public auction on 5th January, 2026, 6th January, 2026, 7th January, 2026, 8th January, 2026, and 9th January, 2026 through an online portal," it added.

Among the items set for auction from the Inland Container Depot in Nairobi are solar water heating systems, handbags, shoes, raw sugar, filter cigarettes, and furniture. This includes vehicles such as a Jeep Wrangler and a Mercedes-Benz. The goods were destined for Kenya or South Sudan but never claimed by owners.

Interested parties can view the goods on December 29-30 at locations including Chai Logistics Centre, Syokimau Inland Container Depot, Autoport, and Compact.

At Nairobi bonded facilities, items include Android Pos Terminal, cartons of Lordkingsley Scw, red wine cases, drinking glasses, vodka, and whisky. These were destined for Kenya and can be viewed at warehouses such as Rapid Rate Services, Siginon BNBI23 3, Mitchell Cotts - BNBI 537, and Aliiad BNBI530.

The KRA has advised potential buyers to inspect the goods at these sites to encourage prompt action by owners.
