Labor ministry suspends Deportivo Pereira operations over labor violations

Colombia's Ministry of Labor has ordered the suspension of operations at Club Deportivo Pereira after detecting serious labor violations. The precautionary measure follows an inspection in Risaralda that uncovered delays in salary, bonus, and social security payments. The suspension will remain in place until the club certifies full compliance with its obligations.

Labor Minister Antonio Sanguino announced the decision on October 30, 2025, following an inspection conducted the previous day by the Risaralda Territorial Directorate at the club's facilities. The measure stemmed from a complaint filed in July, alleging delays in service bonuses, salary payments, and failure to recognize Sunday and holiday surcharges.

“We have imposed a precautionary suspension of operations on Club Deportivo Pereira after confirming serious violations of labor legislation. During an inspection by our Risaralda territorial office, we verified delays in the payment of salaries, bonuses, benefits, and social security contributions for the club's workers and contractors,” stated Sanguino.

The inspection confirmed the existence of payment arrears and unpaid social security contributions. “Through the inspection, we were able to confirm that there are indeed delays in salary payments and social security contributions,” the minister noted.

The suspension halts work for employees and contractors until full payment of outstanding amounts is verified. “As a preventive measure, the work of the workers and contractors serving the club is suspended until the payment of salaries and social security owed to them is verified and certified,” Sanguino explained.

The minister stressed that during the suspension period, labor ties for all employees must be maintained, regardless of their contract type, and salaries must be paid without deductions. “While the investigation continues, the labor relationship for all workers must be maintained, regardless of their form of contracting, and their salaries must be paid without any deductions,” he emphasized.

Additionally, Deportivo Pereira faces an administrative sanction process from the Ministry of Sport for the same violations. The Ministry of Labor notified the Colombian Football Federation and clubs with scheduled matches.
