Lenovo showcases ThinkBook Modular AI PC concept and repairable ThinkPads at MWC 2026

At Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona, Lenovo unveiled the ThinkBook Modular AI PC Concept, a 14-inch dual-screen laptop with detachable displays, swappable keyboards, and hot-swappable ports for versatile productivity. While not headed to retail, it previews modular features alongside new ThinkPad models emphasizing repairability, including the T14 Gen 7 and rugged X11 tablet.

Lenovo's ThinkBook Modular AI PC Concept blends a traditional 14-inch clamshell laptop with a detachable secondary 14-inch display on the lid. Users can configure it back-to-back for presentations, swap the detachable Bluetooth keyboard (via pogo pins) for a dual-screen setup, or use the secondary screen beside the laptop as an external monitor with its kickstand and USB-C connection, supporting vertical or landscape modes for coding or editing.

Modular port modules—including USB-A, USB-C, and HDMI—snap in hot-swappable fashion and store in an AirPods-like case, with potential for Ethernet or audio. At 3 pounds, it prioritizes portability. Hands-on demos showed seamless reconfiguration without reboots, sturdy build, and responsive performance, though processor and AI details (despite the name) were undisclosed. Drawing from Framework's modularity, Lenovo has no plans to sell it retail but may integrate features like swappable ports into future products. One observer called it 'the most modular laptop I've ever seen,' suggesting kickstand reinforcement and anti-slip nubs.

Lenovo also updated its ThinkPad lineup for better serviceability, with tool-less battery removal via tabs. The ThinkPad T14 Gen 7 offers a 14-inch 2.8K OLED display, Intel or AMD processors, 2.8-pound weight, and new Cosmic Blue color (black keyboard), shipping Q2 from $1,799. The slimmer T14s weighs under 2.5 pounds, starting at $1,899.

Other releases include the rugged ThinkPad X11, an 11-inch 2.5K Android tablet with Qualcomm Snapdragon X CPU, available Q2 for $499; and the ThinkPad X13 Detachable with 13-inch display, user-replaceable battery and USB-C ports, launching Q3 at $1,999.
