Lewis Capaldi has confirmed he is behind the unmarked, slowed-down vinyl records sent to UK and US stores last week as a teaser for Record Store Day. In a TikTok video, the singer lip-synced to the original-speed version of his new song 'Stay Love', following days of fan speculation.
As reported earlier this week, record stores including Rough Trade received plain white-sleeved vinyls with anonymous, pitched-down vocals on a piano ballad—prompting guesses from fans that it was Capaldi, based on vocal style and lyrics like 'Stay low' and 'Don’t give up on us'. Capaldi confirmed his involvement on TikTok, lip-syncing the standard track with the caption: “hope you don’t hate this song as much as I hate watching my self lip syncing along to it #staylove #contentking.”
This stunt is Capaldi's latest surprise after his November 2025 EP 'Survive', marking his first release since the 2023 album 'Broken By Desire to Be Heavenly Sent'. He returned poignantly with a surprise Pyramid Stage set at Glastonbury 2026, echoing his 2023 performance halted by Tourette’s tics. Recent highlights include a charity event with Matty Healy and a cameo in Taylor Swift’s 'Opalite' video.
Upcoming shows feature summer 2026 appearances at BST Hyde Park and Roundhay Festival alongside Jacob Alon and Conan Gray, headlining 'In The Park' in Liverpool and Newcastle, and a slot at Sziget Festival.
