Lionel Richie cuts Minnesota set short after falling ill

Lionel Richie ended his concert early in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Wednesday night after feeling dizzy onstage. The 77-year-old performer announced an intermission about 55 minutes into the show at the Grand Casino Arena.

Richie performed his hit "Dancing on the Ceiling" while seated and later played "Three Times a Lady" at the piano before leaving the stage. He told the audience, "When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your ass down."

His band continued briefly before exiting as well. Around 10:50 p.m., saxophonist Dino Soldo informed fans that Richie would not return. "Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well," Soldo said. "He won’t be able to continue. Additional information will be available."

The show was the opening night of Richie’s joint tour with Earth, Wind and Fire. Drummer John Paris noted that Richie had shown no signs of illness beforehand. The 26-date tour is scheduled to continue at venues including Madison Square Garden and the Intuit Dome.
