Anthony Cerda, 34, faces capital murder charges in the death of 90-year-old Francisco Chura in Houston. Police say Cerda broke into the victim's home and stabbed him with a screwdriver during a robbery.
Houston police responded to a stabbing at a home attached to a convenience store in the 7800 block of Canal Street on Aug. 20, 2025. The victim, Francisco Chura, was taken to a hospital where he died on Sept. 7, 2025.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Cerda removed an air-conditioning unit from a window to enter the home. He attacked the sleeping victim, leaving small circular stab wounds. Chura later told detectives that about $3,000 was taken from an open safe.
DNA testing completed earlier this month matched Cerda to a bloody screwdriver recovered at the scene. Cerda, who was already in the Harris County Jail on an unrelated charge, received an arrest warrant on Friday. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
A neighbor told KTRK that Chura was well known locally and often helped others in need.
