Singer and Culture Minister Margareth Menezes will be honored by the Federal University of Ceará with an honorary doctorate title. The ceremony is scheduled for July 3 in Fortaleza.
The honor was approved by the UFC University Council and recognizes Margareth Menezes's artistic, cultural and ministerial trajectory. She is considered one of the main references in Brazilian music and the valorization of Afro-Brazilian culture.
The first Black woman to serve as Brazil's Culture Minister, Margareth Menezes will complete four decades of artistic career in 2027. The tribute also highlights her contribution to affirming Afro-descendant identities.
"Ceará has always occupied a special place in my journey. Receiving the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from UFC is a great emotion and a recognition that I share with all those who believe in the transformative power of culture," the minister stated in a note.
