Appian Capital Brazil completed the reforestation of 388 hectares of Atlantic Forest around Atlantic Nickel's operations in Ipiaú and Itagibá in May.
Appian Capital Brazil, the Brazilian representative of London-based Appian Capital Advisory, completed the reforestation work last month. The restored area equals 543 soccer fields and surrounds the nickel mines operated by Atlantic Nickel. The company acquired Atlantic Nickel for US$ 68 million when the miner, formerly known as Mirabela Nickel, was under judicial recovery. Over the past four years, the seedling nursery in Itagibá produced 147,000 seedlings of native species such as pau-brasil, ipê-amarelo and ingá-de-metro. Between 2018 and 2024, Appian invested R$ 28.7 million in socio-environmental actions in the region. Fauna monitoring recorded 411 species of wild animals, with an increase of 164 species over six years of the program.
