NEEDTOBREATHE releases 'Highlands' from tenth album

NEEDTOBREATHE has released the single 'Highlands' as a preview of their upcoming tenth studio album, 'The Long Surrender,' set for March 27 via MCA. The track, written by frontman Bear Rinehart, features production by nine-time GRAMMY winner Dave Cobb. The band also shared a documentary on the album's creation process.

The American rock band NEEDTOBREATHE unveiled 'Highlands' on February 27, 2026, marking the fourth single from their forthcoming album 'The Long Surrender.' This tenth studio release, due out on March 27 through MCA Nashville, was produced by Dave Cobb, known for his raw, live-recording approach that highlights Rinehart's powerful vocals and introspective lyrics.

Bear Rinehart penned 'Highlands' entirely on his own, describing the album as a deeply personal effort. In a statement, he noted, “This album really clarified that, as an artist, I’ve got to put my convictions in front of anything else.” He added, “It’s definitely a better indicator of where we’re headed than where we’ve ever been, and in a lot of ways it feels like our very first record.” The record's themes emerge from Rinehart's most candid songwriting yet, blending hymn-like elements with searching narratives.

Complementing the single, NEEDTOBREATHE released a 20-minute documentary titled 'The Season of The Long Surrender' earlier this month. Directed by Babysweet, it captures the band's studio sessions, performances, and travels during the album's production.

'The Long Surrender' comprises 12 tracks, including collaborations such as 'Momma Loves Me' featuring The Red Clay Strays and 'Strangeness Of It All' co-written with John Luke Carter. Fans can pre-add or pre-save the album now. Meanwhile, the band is concluding the second leg of their Barely Elegant Acoustic Tour, with dates through March 7 in cities like Salina, Kansas; Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Fort Worth, Texas.
