An Ohio man appeared in court on Saturday on charges including abduction and strangulation after allegedly assaulting the mother of his two children. Devonta Jones, 25, posted bond and was released from custody.
Jones was charged with abduction, strangulation, and theft. Prosecutors said he forced the woman into his vehicle, held the seat belt to prevent her escape, and drove to a creek. Court documents state Jones told her, "Nobody will hear you here," and "I'm about to do you bad."
The woman reported that a verbal altercation turned physical when Jones allegedly choked her with his hands until she lost consciousness. She also accused him of taking her iPhone without consent.
Jones' defense attorney referenced prior dismissed charges against his client and suggested the victim may have made a false allegation. The attorney stated in court, "I think this might be a case where somebody is weaponizing the system when they don't get what they want."
Jones posted 10 percent of his $2,000 bond following the June 27 hearing. His next court date has not been set.
