State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi has revealed plans for a merger between GoTo and Grab as part of discussions on a presidential regulation for online motorcycles. The plan is still in the form-finding stage, involving the Danantara Investment Management Agency. The goal is to ensure the sustainability of the online transportation ecosystem that supports the people's economy.
At the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Friday, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated there are plans for a merger between PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk (GoTo) and Grab. "That's the plan," he said.
This discussion is part of broader talks on a draft presidential regulation (perpres) related to online motorcycles. Prasetyo mentioned that the Danantara Investment Management Agency (BPI) will be involved in the merger process. "More or less like that (Danantara is involved)," he said.
The merger plan is still in the stage of finding its form, which could be a merger or acquisition. "Yes, the scheme is still being sought," Prasetyo stated. This process relates to the government's efforts to find common ground between the interests of driver partners and applicator companies, including service tariff issues.
Prasetyo emphasized that the direction of the discussions aims to ensure the sustainability of the online transportation ecosystem, which has played a major role in driving the people's economy. "Because after all, these companies provide services where jobs are created, our brothers who are partners number quite large, and now we realize that ojol are economic heroes, driving the economy. So the main goal is directed there," he said.
Regarding the progress of the perpres on online motorcycles, the regulation is still being refined with input from various parties, including ojol partners and applicators. "It's still being perfected. Meaning, supplemented from various parties, yes. Both ojol partner friends and applicator friends," he said.
