Irish actor Patrick Gibson has shared his thoughts on portraying James Bond in the upcoming video game 007 First Light. In a recent interview, he described the experience of seeing his motion-capture likeness as the iconic spy as surreal. The game, developed by IO Interactive, is set for release on March 27, 2026.

Earlier this year, Patrick Gibson announced his casting as James Bond in IO Interactive's 007 First Light. In a video statement, he said, “Hey, I’m Patrick Gibson and I’m honored to announce that I’m playing James Bond in IO Interactive’s much anticipated game ‘007 First Light’.” He highlighted the talented ensemble, including Lennie James as Bond’s mentor Greenway, Priyanga Burford as M, Alastair Mackenzie as Q, Kiera Lester as Moneypenny, and Noémie Nakai as the enigmatic Miss Roth. Recently, Marvel actor Gemma Chan joined as Selina Tan, MI6’s Head of Tactical Simulation.

Speaking with IO Interactive’s Global Brand Manager Laurine Deschamps, Gibson reflected on his first encounter with his digital double. “Seeing yourself as a video game character? Surreal,” he noted, adding, “Seeing yourself as a video game character is one thing, and then seeing yourself as James Bond is kind of even stranger. But also just the likeness I was kind of taken aback by. I wasn’t fully expecting it to be look like me.” Noémie Nakai, who plays Miss Roth, joined him in discussing the motion-capture process.

007 First Light is a third-person action-adventure game that explores James Bond’s origin as a young, resourceful recruit in MI6’s training program. It will launch on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows. The title follows the franchise's tradition post-Daniel Craig’s film run, offering a fresh take on the spy's early days.
