PJ Harvey has released her first new song in three years. Titled 'Voyager,' the track was written in the voice of NASA's Voyager 2 probe.
The song was created at the request of British physicist Brian Cox for his Emergence tour. Harvey developed it from a draft for her next album and recorded it with an orchestra at Miraval Studios in Provence.
A video for the track was directed by Cox and Nic Stacey. In a press release, Harvey described her excitement about composing from the probe's perspective and her research into the spacecraft's history.
She noted that the song allowed her to quote Carl Sagan on Earth's 'pale blue dot.' The track marks a synth-based shift following her previous album I Inside the Old Year Dying.
