Strong winds and firm greens at Muirfield Village turned Friday's second round of the 2026 Memorial Tournament into a major test for PGA Tour players.
Justin Thomas called the round the hardest he can remember after shooting a three-over 75. He said the unpredictable winds made club selection nearly impossible and left many players with no margin for error. Thomas and playing partner Rory McIlroy skipped their usual handshake and shared a hug on the final green. Thomas finished the day at five over par and tied for 47th. Scottie Scheffler, the world number one and two-time defending champion, shot an even-par 72. He joked that he felt like he was going to shoot about 90 and struggled to hit greens in regulation. J.T. Poston posted the low round of the day with a five-under 65 to take a one-shot lead. Only 11 players remained under par heading into Saturday's third round.
