Pokémon Go marks 10th anniversary with Times Square Mewtwo raid

Pokémon Go marked its 10th anniversary last night with a recreation of the Mewtwo raid from the game's original trailer in Times Square. More than 1,000 players participated in the community event that turned the area's screens into a virtual battleground.

The raid featured Mewtwo appearing in its container on the surrounding displays before Mega Evolving into Mega Mewtwo Y. Players battled the Psychic-type twice and used a Master Ball to catch a second Mewtwo that had guaranteed perfect stats.

The event included an in-game countdown showing each year since the game's 2016 release along with related raids and spawns. One participant described the atmosphere as a return to the excitement of the summer of 2016.

Pokémon Go has now fulfilled all promises from its original trailer. GO Fest 2026: Global is scheduled for Saturday 11 July and Sunday 12 July and will be free for the first time with the global release of Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y.
