A police officer in Dortmund was shot during a threatening situation. A 51-year-old suspect then retreated into an apartment where his children were located.
In the evening a woman called the emergency services. When officers arrived the suspect fired at the policeman. A bulletproof vest prevented worse injury. The officer was lightly injured or remained uninjured according to current information.
The 51-year-old from Dortmund retreated into an apartment where his three children were present and unharmed. Special forces are on site and attempting to make contact. Police did not initially describe the situation as a hostage-taking.
According to Bild newspaper reports the man had earlier caused a disturbance in a restaurant, threatened guests and sprayed pepper spray. He fled by car and reportedly shot through the window when police tried to stop him.
