Prime Video announces April premiere for 'The House of the Spirits' series

Prime Video has revealed the global premiere date for its adaptation of Isabel Allende's novel 'The House of the Spirits,' set for April 29, 2026. The eight-episode series, the first Spanish-language TV version of the story, was unveiled with three episodes at the 76th Berlin Film Festival. It features a cast led by Alfonso Herrera, Nicole Wallace, and Dolores Fonzi.

Prime Video's limited series 'The House of the Spirits' adapts Isabel Allende's iconic debut novel, a multigenerational epic spanning half a century in an unnamed South American country. The story follows three generations of women—Clara, Blanca, and Alba—as they navigate class conflict, political turmoil, and elements of magical realism within the Trueba family. The streamer describes it as a 'magnificent family saga that tells the epic tale of a proud and passionate family, secret loves, and bloody revolution,' with the family's struggles culminating in a crisis dividing the patriarch and his granddaughter.

This marks the first Spanish-language television adaptation of Allende's bestselling 20th-century novel, previously turned into a 1993 Hollywood film starring Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, and Antonio Banderas. Showrunners Francisca Alegría and Fernanda Urrejola co-wrote the pilot, emphasizing a faithful portrayal shot in Chile to capture the country's diverse landscapes, from the capital to the northern desert and southern countryside. Andrés Wood joined as co-showrunner and directed four episodes, noting the collaborative process led primarily by women. 'It was a new experience for me—much more collaborative than what I was used to—and I’ve learned a lot,' Wood said.

The cast includes Alfonso Herrera, Nicole Wallace, Dolores Fonzi, Fernanda Urrejola as Blanca, Fernanda Castillo as Férula, Aline Küppenheim as Nivea del Valle, Eduard Fernández as Severo del Valle, Sara Becker, Rochi Hernández as Alba, Juan Pablo Raba as Tío Marcos, Pablo Macaya, and Nicolás Contreras as Pedro Tercero. Production highlights feature cinematographer Manuel Alberto Claro and designer Rodrigo Bazaes. Javiera Balmaceda, head of local originals for Latin America at Prime Video, called it 'our most ambitious Latin American original to date,' underscoring the platform's commitment to authentic global storytelling.

Allende, an executive producer alongside Eva Longoria and Courtney Saladino, praised the result: 'When I saw the miniseries, I saw what it always should have been.' The series, produced by FilmNation Entertainment with services from Fabula, premieres April 29 in over 240 countries and territories, following its Berlinale showcase.
